Portage Park

The Portage Park neighborhood is located on the northwest side of the City of Chicago, about six miles from the loop. The community is situated near the junction of the Kennedy and Edens Expressways allowing direct access northwest to O'Hare Airport and north to the North Shore suburbs. This area was developed beginning in the late 1940's as people began gradually migrating outward from the central area of the City.

The neighborhood is characterized by rows of well maintained brick bungalows along tree lined streets. The main shopping area commonly known as "Six Corners" represents the intersection of Irving Park Road, Cicero Avenue and Milwaukee Avenue. From this intersection going in any direction one will find a myriad of shopping opportunities, from conventional retailers such as Sears Roebuck to an assortment of various ethnic establishments. The community even has a vintage movie theater, the Portage Theater on Milwaukee Avenue which shows first and second run movies.
